How to use this page

Just click on the Kanji buttons on the left. Then you can jump to the page giving the meanings and pronunciations. You can also learn about the individual kanji in the compounds by clicking on them.

Note : Transcription and pronunciation

Kun-readings are written in Hiragana and on-readings in Katakana in each Kanji chart. Hiragana in ( ) are okurigana(These endings are conjugated). Some kanji have other readings as well, but only popular and basic readings are listed here.

Long Vowels : The long vowels are transcribed as double vowels in Roma-ji such as [aa][ii][uu][ee] and [oo]. They make a much longer sound than the single vowel.

Tookyoo as in "toe" not as in "too", yuubinkyoku(a postoffice) is pronounced as in "you"

Please don't forget that

kaisatsu(ticket gate) as in "kite" not as in "wait" keisatsu(the police) as in "Kate, gate" not in "either"

Not only Kanji words but also Katakana words are listed here, because although those words are transcribed into Katakana from foreign languages, it is sometimes quite hard to guess their meanings.
